An
Aquabirths pool provides a natural, gentle environment
for the days during and surrounding the birth, easing the body, and
relieving aches and pains. Warm water also softens the membranes for
birth (evidence shows that waterbirthing reduces the chances of tearing
in first time Mums).
The warm water provides drug free pain relief during labour. This enables women to remain fully conscious and in control throughout the birth and without the unpleasant and even life threatening side effects or physical restrictions for mother and baby of drugs. Such a natural and gentle form of giving birth enables both mother and baby to recover quickly.
An Aquabirths pools is designed for simplicity, comfort and sturdiness. To our knoweldge, they are the only birth pool designed by a midwife. The pool caters for the comfort of both the labouring woman and her attendants. It is circular - 1.5m in diameter (5 feet) and 73cm deep (2ft 6 inches) and provides a volume of water sufficient to support the biggest of pregnant bodies and plenty of space for movement or a birth partner. There is also plenty of padding on the base and around the edge so the pool is comfortable for those in it for those leaning over the edge attending.
